Although the routes are adequate, the frequency was a little lackluster. I understand now why everyone in Atlanta seems to drive a car ) That being said, we made do with public transport and it was fine for a weekend. Secondly, MARTA routes will definitely get you everywhere, but not necessarily on a convenient schedule. Midtown felt like we were really on vacation and it made everything so easy since you really are in the middle of everything. We did head up to Buckhead one evening, and although I'm sure the hotel properties are nice, it felt too much like home with chain restaurants, "big box" stores, etc. We headed into downtown for attractions (Aquarium, CNN, Coke) and although it's nice to spend the day in that area, we'd be bored in the evenings if we were limited to hotel bars and restaurants rather than local color. It was great to be able to walk to restaurants, attractions, and MARTA easily. It is by far the best part of town to stay in, and I can't stress highly enough how great of a decision this was. I always appreciate local input when planning trips, but also put a lot of weight into trip reports since tourists tend to look at things a little differently than someone who is 100% in their comfort zone at home :)įirst - I am SO GLAD that everyone here suggests staying in Midtown. I spent last weekend in Atlanta for a short getaway trip and had a great time! I just wanted to share a few thoughts from a visitor's perspective.
